The idea of layering on top of history is cool, and happens everywhere — it’s standard practice to preserve what once was and to build on top of it. Still, I wonder what it might have been like to remove layers and really get visitors down to water level, as in Pianissimo from a couple of months ago; perhaps it would get them engaging more with the water, and more sympathetic to and active in the efforts to keep Boston harbor clean and livable…
